WorkKeys Assessment Center

For the past three years, the Regional Council workforce development staff has been working with the Division of Workforce Development on the development of a Career Readiness Credential. The Career Readiness Credential program focus is to provide a tool to job seekers to assist them in promoting their skills to employers and to assist businesses with identifying the skills applicants and their employees have to help them make better hiring and training decisions and reduce the costs associated with hiring, turnover and waste.

The Career Readiness Certificate is based on three WorkKeys assessments: Reading for Information, Locating Information and Applied Mathematics. Based on an individual's scores, a report stating their skills related to success in the workplace in these key areas is available. Individuals, who meet minimum skill requirements, will receive a Career Readiness Certificate signed by the Governor attesting to their skill levels.

WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system that measures "real world" skills employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for an occupation - skilled or professional and at a level of education. The WorkKeys system can be used as part of a hiring process or with incumbent worker to identify training needs and reduce costs associated with doing business. The WorkKeys system includes three components:

Profiling of a job or occupation.
Identification of the skill requirements and WorkKeys skill levels an individual must have to successfully perform a job. A skill profile can be customized for a job with in a company or if available an occupational profile can be used to determine the skills and assessment levels needed.
